General

During the tour in the company of a professional guide, you will visit the neighbourhoods of Baixa and Alfama – the heart of the Old Town. In Alfama you feel the smell of grilled sardines in the air, in Baixa (the Portuguese word for ‘downtown’) the fresh coffee and pastries scent hangs allover in the air, while retro trams are passing along the streets. In Alfama we visit Portas do Sol belvedere and Lisbon Cathedral, which is the oldest church in the city (the construction began in the year of 1147).

In Baixa we will show you all the must-see attractions: the Commerce Square, where the city juts out into the river, Rua Augusta, the central square of Rossio (Pedro IV), the Restauradores Square, the Figueira square, the Sao Domingos church, the Santa Justa lift (the only remaining vertical one), the yellow Gloria funicular and the Liberty Avenue (Avenida da Liberdade) with its platan alleys and beautiful patterns of the typical Portuguese pavement. In Baixa you can also try the famous cherry liqueur “Ginjinha” in a popular hole-in the-wall bar.

Next we move to the neighborhood of Belem, which symbolizes the golden era of Portugal. There you’ll find the most impressive monuments to visit: the Jeronimos Monastery (UNESCO World Heritage Site built by King Manuel I in the XVI), the Monument to the Discoveries, the huge compass rose and mappa mundi that adorn the square in front of the Monument to the Discoveries, the Empire Square and Belem tower. In Belem is also located one more special place. It’s “Pasteis de Belem” confectionery, founded in 1837. Here you can try one of the famous “pasteis”, made following a secret recipe from the monastery.

Afterwords we invite you to see the modern part of town which is called EXPO and the Nations Park, with it’s broad promenade, cable-way, Oceanarium, the Vasco da Gama bridge and remarkable architecture!
Lisbon generously will share with you its delights: panoramic views, exciting touristic places and a daring fusion of everyday life and uniqueness!
