General
We started our day trip by visiting the São Lourenço Palace. It is a fort built between the XVI and XVII century, adapted for a stay to the nobles after the XVII century. Then we visit the Fort São Tiago. Being located in the old town (historical town of Funchal), built in the XVII century with the purpose of defense function from pirates attacks.
Fort São Tiago with views of the Atlantic Ocean, was rebuilt during the XVIII and XIX centuries. In the end of XX century became a cultural monument. After the visit to São Tiago Fort we move to the Gardens of Quinta Vigia or Forte do Pico.
